This project aimed to incorporate African mythological fables and the stories of Drexciya and the Middle Passage by using imagery of water and connotations of The Black Atlantic. By examining the cultural and historical significance of Drexciya, the Middle Passage, and The Black Atlantic within the context of the black diaspora, I was able to begin to analyse how these concepts could serve as a bridge between the past and the present and how they could be integrated into my practice in a meaningful way. By weaving in these various influences, I aimed to challenge dominant narratives, present alternate perspectives, and highlight the interconnectedness of the many identities and experiences within The Black Atlantic.
