Artist Statement

I am a biracial, immigrant woman artist and activist living and working in the South-West. My work examines my family ancestry surrounding slavery and explores themes of race, identity, migration, heritage, gender and African diaspora. I often work alongside the local community and arts institutions in my practice to develop conversations about equality, diversity and inclusion. In my practice, I often explore traditional crafting methods, including quilting, weaving, printing, sculpture and natural dyeing practices, alongside modern methods, including collage, photography and various printing techniques. My work is often experimental but deeply personal, drawing on my family's African origins, and by using Gabonese artefacts, such as textiles, symbols and photographs within my work.

Some of my recent work features photos and references to current events, including the Black Lives Matter protests. By incorporating past and present events, my work explores collective cultural memory and the Black Atlantic and its continued impact on society today.
