Restrict

Inspired by restrictive traditional Japanese Textile practices, my work explores the relationship between the natural dyeing process and its effect on the environment. In this project, I have investigated the theme of restrict and how it applies to the making and creative process. I have been examining Shibori and Indigo restrictive dyeing techniques and Sashiko hand stitching and Boro stitching. The 3D felted maquettes highlight the environmental artwork these natural dyes unintentionally create, and can be viewed as a representation of the indigo saturated earth.
